Hebrews 9:11-27. The Blood of Christ
When Christ came as high
priest of the good things that are already here, he went through the
greater and more perfect tabernacle that is not man-made, that is to say,
not a part of this creation. He did not enter by means of the blood of
goats and calves; but he entered the Most Holy Place once for all by his
own blood, having obtained eternal redemption. The blood of goats and
bulls and the ashes of a heifer sprinkled on those who are ceremonially
unclean sanctify them so that they are outwardly clean. How much more,
then, will the blood of Christ, who through the eternal Spirit offered
himself unblemished to God, cleanse our consciences from acts that lead to
death, so that we may serve the living God! For this reason Christ is
the mediator of a new covenant, that those who are called may receive the
promised eternal inheritance--now that he has died as a ransom to set them
free from the sins committed under the first covenant. In the case of a
will, it is necessary to prove the death of the one who made it,
because a will is in force only when somebody has died; it never takes
effect while the one who made it is living. This is why even the first
covenant was not put into effect without blood. When Moses had
proclaimed every commandment of the law to all the people, he took the
blood of calves, together with water, scarlet wool and branches of hyssop,
and sprinkled the scroll and all the people. He said, "This is the blood
of the covenant, which God has commanded you to keep." In the same
way, he sprinkled with the blood both the tabernacle and everything used
in its ceremonies. In fact, the law requires that nearly everything be
cleansed with blood, and without the shedding of blood there is no
forgiveness. It was necessary, then, for the copies of the heavenly
things to be purified with these sacrifices, but the heavenly things
themselves with better sacrifices than these. For Christ did not enter a
man-made sanctuary that was only a copy of the true one; he entered heaven
itself, now to appear for us in God's presence. Nor did he enter heaven
to offer himself again and again, the way the high priest enters the Most
Holy Place every year with blood that is not his own. Then Christ would
have had to suffer many times since the creation of the world. But now he
has appeared once for all at the end of the ages to do away with sin by
the sacrifice of himself. Just as man is destined to die once, and after
that to face judgment, so Christ was sacrificed once to take away the
sins of many people; and he will appear a second time, not to bear sin,
but to bring salvation to those who are waiting for him.
Romans
9:33
"As it is
written: "See, I lay in Zion a stone that causes men to stumble and a
rock that makes them fall, and the one who trusts in him will never be
put to shame. "
John
1:12
"Yet to
all who received him, to those who believed in his name, he gave the
right to become children of God-- . "
John
12:46
"I have
come into the world as a light, so that no one who believes in me should
stay in darkness. "
John 6:35,
47
"Then
Jesus declared, "I am the bread of life. He who comes to me will never
go hungry, and he who believes in me will never be thirsty. 47 I tell
you the truth, he who believes has everlasting life. "
Galatians
3:13-14
"Christ redeemed us from the
curse of the law by becoming a curse for us, for it is written: "Cursed
is everyone who is hung on a tree." He redeemed us in order that the
blessing given to Abraham might come to the Gentiles through Christ
Jesus, so that by faith we might receive the promise of the Spirit. "
Hebrews
5:8-10
"Although he was a son, he
learned obedience from what he suffered 9and, once made perfect, he
became the source of eternal salvation for all who obey him 10and was
designated by God to be high priest in the order of
Melchizedek. "
Colossians 1:15-17. The Supremacy of
"15He is the image
of the invisible God, the firstborn over all creation. 16For by him all
things were created: things in heaven and on earth, visible and
invisible, whether thrones or powers or rulers or authorities; all
things were created by him and for him. 17He is before all things, and
in him all things hold together. "
John 5:36-44
"I have testimony weightier than that of John. For
the very work that the Father has given me to finish, and which I am
doing, testifies that the Father has sent me. 37And the Father who sent
me has himself testified concerning me. You have never heard his voice
nor seen his form, 38nor does his word dwell in you, for you do not
believe the one he sent. 39You diligently study the Scriptures because
you think that by them you possess eternal life. These are the
Scriptures that testify about me, 40yet you refuse to come to me to have
life. 41"I do not accept praise from men, 42but I know you. I know that
you do not have the love of God in your hearts. 43I have come in my
Father's name, and you do not accept me; but if someone else comes in
his own name, you will accept him. 44How can you believe if you accept
praise from one another, yet make no effort to obtain the praise that
comes from the only God? "
Isaiah 11:1-5. The Branch From Jesse
" A
shoot will come up from the stump of Jesse; from his roots a Branch will
bear fruit. 2 The Spirit of the LORD will rest on him- the Spirit of
wisdom and of understanding, the Spirit of counsel and of power, the
Spirit of knowledge and of the fear of the LORD - 3 and he will delight
in the fear of the LORD . He will not judge by what he sees with his
eyes, or decide by what he hears with his ears; 4 but with righteousness
he will judge the needy, with justice he will give decisions for the
poor of the earth. He will strike the earth with the rod of his mouth;
with the breath of his lips he will slay the wicked. 5 Righteousness
will be his belt and faithfulness the sash around his waist. "
